Privacy Policy

Who we are

Dear One is an iOS app built for parents who want to capture memories and write letters to their children. It is developed and maintained by Yazan Al-Halabi.

What we don't collect

Dear One is built on a simple principle: your memories belong to you, not us.

• We do not collect, read, or store any entries you write.
• We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal information.
• We do not require an account to use the app.
• We do not sell data to third parties. There is nothing to sell.
• We do not use your data for advertising.

Everything you write — every memory, every letter, every draft — lives entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

iCloud backup (optional)

Premium subscribers can enable iCloud backup. If you choose to turn this on:

• Your entries are backed up to your personal iCloud account, which is controlled by you and governed by Apple's privacy policy.
• We have no access to your iCloud backup. It is stored in your private iCloud container and is only accessible by you on your own devices.
• iCloud backup is opt-in. It is off by default.

You can enable or disable iCloud backup at any time from the app's settings.

Crash reporting and diagnostics

To help us identify and fix bugs, Dear One uses Sentry for anonymous crash reporting. When the app crashes, a technical report is sent that includes:

• The type of error and where in the code it occurred
• Your device model and iOS version
• App version and build number

These reports contain no personal information and no content from your entries. They are used exclusively for fixing bugs and improving stability.

Analytics

Dear One uses Firebase Analytics (by Google) to collect anonymous, aggregated data about how the app is used. This helps us understand which features are valuable and where we can improve the experience.

What Firebase Analytics collects:

• Screen views and in-app events (e.g. "opened timeline", "started new entry")
• Session duration and frequency of use
• Device model, iOS version, and app version
• Country or region (not precise location)
• An anonymous installation identifier generated by Firebase

What Firebase Analytics does not collect:

• Any content from your entries or letters
• Your name, email, or any personally identifying information
• Your child's name or any information about your child

Analytics data is associated with an anonymous ID only — it cannot be traced back to you. You can opt out of analytics at any time from the app's Settings screen. You can read Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Subscriptions and payments

Dear One offers an optional Premium subscription. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store any payment information — your card details never touch our systems.

Subscription management (upgrades, downgrades, cancellations) is handled through your Apple ID settings.

We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous subscriber identifier — no personal information, no entry content. You can read RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Children's privacy

Dear One is designed for parents and is intended for users aged 17 and older. The app is not directed at children.

While the app allows parents to write about their children, no information about children is collected, stored, or transmitted by us. Content about children stays entirely on your device.

Data stored on your device

All app data — your entries, settings, themes, and preferences — is stored locally in a SQLite database on your device. This data is:

• Included in your standard iPhone backup to iCloud or iTunes/Finder, unless you have disabled backups entirely.
• Deleted when you uninstall the app, unless you have iCloud backup enabled.
• Never accessible to us.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app's release notes. We will never change this policy in a way that reduces your privacy without notifying you clearly.
